Building stronger levees
Senator Mary Landrieu recently helped secure $5.8 billion for Louisiana's defense against nature's wrath. While that will go a long way toward our protection, we must do more. Louisiana has fought for adequate levee protection for decades, and it's wrong that it took a catastrophe for congress to take us seriously.

Helena's Plan:
- I will work to employ a comprehensive Category 5 levee protection plan for our region;
- I will be a relentless voice to keep restoration and levee improvements before Congress;
- I will assemble a team of experts to monitor the Corps of Engineers as a civilian watchdog group;
- I will conduct an annual summit to gather the leading engineers to offer recommendations and suggestions on how to strengthen our defense against nature.
